Questions to Ask Before Booking a Lymphatic Massage

16 questions about licensing, location and price, plus a sheet for comparing up to three practitioners side by side. Print the PDF, or work through the same questions below.

Licensing and training

Ask before you book. Then check the answers yourself; do not rely on the answer alone.

  1. What is your full name and license number?

Search the number in your state board's lookup. In Texas that is TDLR's license search.

  2. Is that license current, and is it issued to you or to the business?

A business license covers the location, not the person.

  3. Who will be working with me, and is it the person whose license I checked?

    Check each therapist by name.

  4. Which school or body issued your lymphatic drainage training, and when?

Look the holder up in that issuer's directory. Our certifications page lists where.

  5. Do you hold any other professional license, and which board issues it?

Physical and occupational therapists are licensed by a different board than massage therapists.

Location and logistics

These are the practice's own policies. Write down the answers.

  1. Where do sessions take place: a studio, a clinic or my home?

  2. If you come to me, what area do you cover, and is there a travel fee?

  3. Which session lengths do you offer?

  4. How do I book, and how far ahead are you taking appointments?

  5. What is your cancellation and late-arrival policy?

  6. What forms or information do you need from me before the first visit?

This is their intake policy, not medical advice.

Price

Get every charge before you book, so two quotes can be compared.

  1. What is the price for each session length?

  2. Do you sell packages? How many sessions, what is the price per session, and do they expire?

  3. Are there other charges, such as a travel fee, a deposit, tax or a card fee?

  4. Which payment methods do you take, and can you give an itemized receipt?

  5. What is your refund policy?

Questions that are not for the practitioner

Questions about whether lymphatic drainage is right for you, or about timing around surgery or a medical condition, belong with your doctor or surgeon. This checklist does not cover them.

Where to check the answers

Checklist: common questions

Can I use this checklist for any practitioner?

Yes. The questions are about licensing, location and price, so they apply to any practitioner or practice. Our own listings answer many of them already, with the source for each answer.

Should I rely on what the practitioner tells me about their license?

Ask, then check. A state board’s own lookup is the record; what a website or a person says is a claim until you have looked it up.

Does this checklist cover medical questions?

No. Questions about whether lymphatic drainage is right for you, or about timing, belong with your doctor or surgeon.

Sources and date checked

The questions are our own. We opened the two lookups they point to on . If a link has moved or a fact is out of date, tell us and we will correct the page.
